THC Hydra is a UNIX terminal utility designed to test the security of servers, local networks and web applications. It has open source code, can be easily compiled for almost all current operating systems. That is, there is also THC Hydra for Windows, Mac OS, Android. The program is included in the base build of
Kali Linux. Installation in
Kali NetHunter is also possible (without the GUI).
Program features
It supports bruteforce (not the hash, but the dictionary search for the keys). Its main advantage, however, is the network protocols it supports. There are more than 50 of them, including Rlogin, RSH, Subversion and even XMPP. And the program can operate in parallel mode, simultaneously breaking into the system from several computers (even using GPU computing) or using several network protocols.
Basic features:
- access to secured local networks (both via Ethernet and WiFi);
- access to LAN through a given port range;
- recover password to encrypted files/packages;
- breaking web servers;
- breaking email services (including Gmail, with the ability to bypass captcha restrictions);
- making your own dictionary based on a given key phrase.
The bruteforcing results can be exported into a log file. This will allow to crack a network in several attempts (no need to start all over again every time).
Applications
With Hydra, you can recover forgotten password to a file or WiFi. It works noticeably faster than other brute-forcing applications and can use both CPU and GPU computing simultaneously (the latest version of the proprietary driver is required).
