QSS is a free utility from TP-Link for configuring the routers of this manufacturer. The application is available for Windows and provides access to the router's web-interface, but in a more convenient graphical version (and without the need to enter the local IP-address, administrator login and password).
Application features and functionality
The program is designed to simplify the initial setup procedure of the TP-Link router. It can be useful for those, who are not experienced PC users but would like to set up home WiFi on their own. The application is only compatible with modern models of routers that have a QSS button on their casing.
- Create a WiFi hotspot, name, password, encryption type, frequency (for dual band routers);
- enable and configure the QSS function (to connect devices to WiFi without entering a password)
Please note that the QSS button takes the router into pairing mode via a PIN for 2 minutes. Other routers refer to this feature as
WPS. And for security reasons and to prevent hacking it is recommended to disable it (through the application it can be done).
There are also integrated drivers for Windows of all editions (XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10) necessary for synchronization with the router (if the exact model requires it).
The application only works when the router is connected to a PC or laptop via Ethernet (LAN port 1 - 4, not WAN). Once it's launched, the step-by-step configuration wizard opens and the user only has to follow the prompts.
