Intercepter-NG is a sniffer program for capturing and analyzing network traffic. It supports all common network protocols and is available for Windows (with graphical interface), Linux (works through the terminal), and Android devices. There is no official Russian version, but there are a lot of fan translations. The utility is also part of
Kali Linux by default.
Program features
The application allows:
- intercept logins and passwords to access websites;
- intercept files transmitted in the local network;
- decrypt messages to messengers (except those that use p2p encryption, like Telegram);
- integrate third-party scripts in transmitted packets (you can provoke deauthentication of connected clients);
- integration of SSL certificate in transmitted packets (once installed, it allows full "sniffing" of mobile device traffic);
- attack on devices in the local network by spoofing DNS (it can cause a false window for entering the WiFi password).
In total, the program implements over 50 variants of attacks. Intercepter-NG for Windows also adds the ability to decrypt packets received (bruteforce). And it is one of the few sniffers that can intercept traffic from iOS devices. There's even a special iOS-Killer tool for this, which sends a command to delete cookies for installed apps. And the next time they are launched, the user will need to enter a username/password (which can also be intercepted). Intercepter-NG on Android works in pseudo-graphic mode. It absolutely requires root privileges and a kernel which allows to use WiFi in the scanner mode.
What the application is good for
The program can be used to test the local network and the devices connected to it for resistance to hacking. It also allows you to know what sites each LAN client is connected to, what data they are sending/receiving. And all this traffic can be copied for further extraction of logins/passwords/cookies.
